ROBOTICS

Interest In Robotics Is A Hobby With Many Levels

Having an interest in building and manipulating robots often leads to taking up a hobby in robotics. Kits can be purchase to build various forms of robots; toys, programmable versions, and BEAM robots. This is a hobby that can be picked up at any age, especially since there are kits available for all ages to assemble.

Toy Robots

These are perfect for people just getting started with building robots. There are toy cars, mechanical racehorses, mechanical tigers, buggy cars, jungle robots, roly poly robots, remote control boxing fighter, and various other robotic forms that can be assembled by ages 10 and up. These make great beginner projects for an adult and child to work together on.

Programmable Robots

This is a type of robot designed with more advanced hobbyists in mind. These often require soldering and/or some computer programming involved with assembly. Younger builders might become frustrated if they begin with one of these kits. It's best to start them off with a beginner robot kit instead. Some programmable robots can be made to fight against another programmable robot, walk where you tell it to, and solve mazes.

BEAM Robots

Solar power is what makes these robots able to function. Some robot kits enable the builder to construct a robot that simply glows in the dark with a variety of LED lights or they can be as detailed as robots that can avoid obstacles around the house. There are also small kits for what can be considered to be a solar powered race car.

Starting up a hobby in robotics can begin with a simple science experiment for school and end up leading to robot wars with friends. These sumo robot wars also can lead to greater competitions around the world for large amounts of prize money. This is one hobby that can lead to much fame and recognition.
